Columbia man facing murder charges in death of St. Matthews man
A Columbia man is facing murder charges for allegedly shooting a man on Thursday during an argument.
Edward Britt, 56, is also facing charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a felon, said Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers.
Summers said Britt was at the home of Franklin Parker, 79, in St. Matthews, when the two got into an argument. At some point, Britt allegedly shot Parker “multiple times in the upper torso and fled.”
Britt allegedly admitted to investigators his involvement in the shooting, Summers said. Britt is being held at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
“This was a senseless act of violence, and I am very pleased that we were able to bring closure to this case quickly”, Summers said.
