Former Midlands mayor named to federal nuclear board

A South Carolinian has been asked to serve on the federal body that oversees America’s nuclear power plants.

President Donald Trump has reportedly named David Wright of Columbia to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, according to a report by WIS TV.

Wright will serve the remainder of an open five-year term, until 2020. He is a a former member of the S.C. State House and served as the mayor of Irmo.

He is currently the president of an energy sector consulting firm, Wright Directions LLC. Wright was previously chairman of South Carolina’s Public Service Commission. He also served as president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners and as national chairman of the Nuclear Waste Strategy Coalition.

He was awarded the Order of the Palmetto in 1996.
