Super PAC backing Lindsey Graham raises $3 million

AP

A super PAC has raised nearly $3 million to back Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham’s presidential bid.

Security Is Strength has raised $2.9 million for the underdog Republican’s campaign in the last two months from more than two dozen donors, according to a report filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission.

Graham, whose campaign reported raising $3.7 million since entering the race, has trailed at the back of the pack in national and some early-primary state polls.

Donors can give unlimited amounts of money to super PACs, but donations to candidate committees are capped. In exchange, super PACs must not coordinate their activities with candidates.

A super PAC backing former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has raised more than $100 million.

The PAC’s top donors, giving $500,000 each, are:

▪  Ronald Perelman, chairman and chief executive of MacAndrews & Forbes, whose holdings include Revlon. He’s also a member of Graham’s presidential campaign national finance committee.

▪  Robert McNair, owner of the Houston Texans and a University of South Carolina graduate

▪  Access Industries, a New York-based conglomerate that includes Warner Music Group, and real estate and technology holdings.

Andrew King, a former deputy chief of staff of the senator, and Caroline Wren, who served as finance director for Graham’s 2014 reelection campaign, are running the PAC.
