Snow is returning to South Carolina forecasts
Just when you thought the worst of the winter weather was done, comes news that more of the white stuff could be returning to South Carolina.
Early forecasts are predicting the chance of snow in parts of the Palmetto State this weekend.
Snow is expected to fall in the Upstate on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
The current forecast in Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and Clemson is calling for possible snowfall very early Sunday morning. There’s a 60-percent chance of precipitation starting around 1 a.m. Sunday. It could be a mix of freezing rain, snow and sleet.
The precipitation is expected to continue during the day, but rising temperatures will make the chance of daytime snow less likely.
In Columbia and the Midlands, the NWS forecast is calling for cold temperatures and precipitation, also starting in the early hours on Sunday.
But the likelihood is for lots of rain, not snow, in Richland, Lexington and Kershaw counties, as well as the extended Midlands.
Even if there isn’t snow in and around Columbia, it might be a day best spent indoors. Sunday morning temperatures are expected to be in the mid 30s, rising to a possible high of 50 during the day before dropping back into the high 30-degree range overnight.
In the Lowcountry, along the South Carolina coast and in the Pee Dee region near the North Carolina border, weather forecasts are similar to the one in Columbia. Predictions indicate rain and cool temperatures, but snow isn’t expected in Charleston, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach or Florence.
The Rock Hill area near the N.C. border, in addition to major Tar Heel cities Charlotte and Raleigh have a good chance to experience snow, according to the NWS. The same is not true for Atlanta, where there is a great chance for precipitation, but warmer temperatures are likely to allow only rain to fall from the sky.
