NC State snaps No. 19 Clemson’s 10-game winning streak
N.C. State snapped No. 19 Clemson’s 10-game winning streak Thursday night in Raleigh, N.C. as the Wolfpack earned a 78-77 win.
Tigers guard Gabe DeVoe was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left and Clemson trailing by three. The senior made the first two free throws before N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts called timeout to ice him. DeVoe’s third free-throw attempt went off the rim allowing the Wolfpack to secure the victory.
N.C. State led 41-38 at halftime and extended its lead to 12 with 1:34 remaining before the Tigers mounted a furious comeback.
Clemson had the ball trailing 74-71 with 27 seconds left but its inbound pass was stolen, resulting in an N.C. State dunk.
The Tigers were down 78-75 with 1.3 seconds left when N.C. State tried to inbound the ball from under its own basket and threw the ball out of bounds.
DeVoe was fouled moments later but was unable to convert the three free throws at the line.
N.C. State’s Omer Yurtseven led all scorers with 29 points.
Clemson was led by Marcquise Reed, who finished with 17 points. Donte Grantham added 16 points and nine rebounds, while DeVoe finished with 12 points and 10 boards.
The Tigers will return home to face Miami on Saturday at 3 p.m.
