Gamecocks baseball loses another starting hitter to injury
For the second time Tuesday, South Carolina’s baseball team announced a key hitter was lost for the foreseeable future.
First it was catcher Chris Cullen, who underwent knee surgery, and later in the day, the school announced junior infielder Madison Stokes will miss 6-8 weeks with a broken right wrist after being hit by a pitch in last Saturday’s game at Missouri.
The six-week timetable almost assuredly ends Stokes’ season.
Stokes has started 47 games at shortstop is batting .224 (37-for-165) for the season with 18 runs scored, 10 doubles, three homers and 17 RBIs on the year. He started 29 games in 2016 and 21 2015.
