USC well represented in Baseball America list of top 500 prospects

Baseball America released its top 500 prospects for next week’s MLB draft on Monday and nine of the 500 players have ties to the University of South Carolina.

The list includes three current Gamecocks and six players that are signed with USC as a part of the 2017 recruiting class.

The current South Carolina players on the list are pitchers Clarke Schmidt, Wil Crowe and Tyler Johnson.

Schmidt, who had his junior season cut short after needing Tommy John surgery, is the highest rated prospect at No. 32.

Crowe is next at No. 48, followed by Johnson, who comes in at No. 156.

As for the signees, catcher Luis Campusano is the highest rated prospect at No. 42.

Infielder Noah Campbell is next at No. 112, followed by outfielder Kyle Jacobsen at 155, pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski at 173, pitcher Logan Chapman at 202 and outfielder Ian Jenkins at 419.

The MLB draft will be held June 12-14 and can be seen on the MLB Network and MLB.com.
