South Carolina baseball sets weekend rotation

South Carolina baseball has its rotation.

The Gamecocks announced Wednesday that Mark Kingston had fully nailed down his weekend trio. Adam Hill will be the Friday starter and Cody Morris will go Saturday, as the coach previously announced.

Junior college pitcher Ridge Chapman, a Spartanburg Methodist product, will go on Sundays.

Chapman had been competing with freshman Logan Chapman for the last spot.

Last season, Hill was USC’s Sunday starter and struggled with keeping his pitch count down. He went 3-6 with a 3.04 ERA, striking out 87 and walking 39.

Morris held most of the midweek starting work in 2017, taking some Sunday work after Clarke Schmidt was lost for the year. Morris was a top recruit who underwent Tommy John surgery, and he had 47 strikeouts and eight walks in 39 1/3 innnings with a 3.66 ERA.

Ridge Chapman had a 2.84 ERA with five wins and 98 strikeouts last season at Spartanburg Methodist. Logan Chapman struck out 98 in 51 innings as a high school senior with a 0.23 ERA, and he was drafted in the 36th round by the Boston Red Sox.
