South Carolina’s 2017 football schedule is all set

One day Will Muschamp will get a season-opener in Williams-Brice Stadium. Maybe.

It won’t be in 2017, though.

The Southeastern Conference on Tuesday released the full league schedule, and the Gamecocks’ first two games will be away from home. South Carolina opens the season Sept. 2 against North Carolina State in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. After that, it’s one of the longest trips in the SEC, at Missouri in Columbia, Mo., on Sept. 9.

Then South Carolina will have its first home game, Sept. 16 against Kentucky. The Gamecocks opened this season with two consecutive road games.

South Carolina will play SEC home games against the Wildcats, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Florida in 2017. Their conference home games will be against the Tigers, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Georgia.

The game against the Bulldogs is uncharacteristically late in the season. The Gamecocks will play Georgia in Sanford Stadium on Nov. 4. It will be just the fourth time in the 69-game history of the series that it will be played in November. The only time it has had a later date was in 1939.

Most of November is loaded for the Gamecocks, who face the Bulldogs, Florida, Clemson and Wofford in that month.
