Former Gamecock Jared Cook wins ESPY for ‘Best Play’
Former South Carolina tight end Jared Cook, now a tight end with the Green Bay Packers, teamed with quarterback Aaron Rodgers to win an ESPY for “Best Play” for their pass and catch in a win against the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL playoffs in January.
The awards were announced Wednesday night.
On third and 22, Cook made a sideline-straddling 36-yard catch from Rodgers with three seconds left in a tie game. Mason Crosby followed with a 51-yard game-winning field goal.
“It was a great catch by Jared,” Rodgers said after the win.
Cook finished with six catches for 104 yards and a touchdown in the game.
The South Carolina women’s basketball national championship team was among the seven nominees for “Best Team.” The award went to the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.
