Where do Gamecocks rank among all 130 FBS college football programs?
In a ranking of all 130 FBS college football programs, South Carolina comes in at No. 29, according to Athlon Sports.
The SEC, which placed two teams in the National Championship Game in 2017 with Alabama beating Georgia, has five teams in the Top 25 and a total of eight in the Top 50.
About the 2018 Gamecocks, Athlon says:
“Reason for Optimism: Quarterback Jake Bentley seems poised to take a big step forward in his junior year, and the supporting cast on the outside is strong with the return of Deebo Samuel and Bryan Edwards.
“Reason for Concern: The Gamecocks need more out of their ground attack (3.9 ypc) and offensive line. Each level of the defense loses a key contributor, with the secondary set to lose three starters.”
The SEC rankings:
No. 1 — Alabama
No. 4 — Georgia
No. 9 — Auburn
No. 17 — Mississippi State
No. 19 — LSU
No. 25 — Florida
No. 29 — South Carolina
No. 31 — Texas A&M
No. 38 — Mizzou
No. 58 — Tennessee
No. 59 — Kentucky
No. 62 — Arkansas
No. 63 — Ole Miss
No. 64 — Vanderbilt
