The South Carolina football team has added North Carolina transfer running back Ty’Son Williams to its 2016 roster.

The former Crestwood High School opted to leave UNC after one season. The sophomore’s plan is to walk on this season and go on scholarship in 2017. He will sit out the 2016 season, per NCAA transfer rules.

Last season for the Tar Heels, Williams (6-0, 220) rushed for 57 yards on 19 carries. As a high school senior in 2014 he rushed for 1,058 yards and 14 touchdowns. He burst on the scene as a junior with 1,608 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns.

Williams will wear No. 27 for South Carolina.

Walk-on freshman wide receiver Garrett Frederick also was added in the latest roster update. He’s a 5-foot-11, 180-pounder from Plano, Texas.

The Gamecocks report on Monday as a team and hold their first practice Tuesday.
