JUCO corner Steven Montac joins the Gamecocks
Junior college cornerback Steven Montac has joined the South Carolina football team and worked out with the Gamecocks for the first time Friday.
USC defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson announced the arrival and said Montac had a good first day but still has to catch up on things.
“We’ll work with him. That’s why it’s camp,” Robinson said. “We’ll bring him along and he’ll slowly progress. He’ll be fine.”
Montac, who is from Covington, Ga., spent one season at Coffeyville Junior College in Kansas.
“This is a dream come true just to be coached by Coach TRob (Travaris Robinson) and Muschamp,” Montac said befofre his arrival. “And, actually playing for South Carolina, there’s nothing like it. I kind of thought it would happen but after I went to the camp I knew it was going to happen.”
Montac was a full qualifier out of high school and went to Coffeyville to improve his chances for a major college offer. USC recruited his teammate Jamarcus King and got a look at him then. He will have three years of eligibility.
