North Carolina hoops prospect has Gamecocks in top seven

South Carolina is in the mix for one of top high school basketball prospects in North Carolina.

Northwood Academy forward Immanuel Bates has the Gamecocks in his top seven released Sunday night. The other schools are Louisville, Georgia Tech, DePaul, Xavier, Georgetown and North Carolina State.

247Sports rates Bates as a four-star recruit and the sixth-rated prospect in North Carolina. He is ranked No. 85 on the Top 100 for Class of 2018.

Bates, 6-foot-9, played at Jack Britt High School before transferring to Northwood in Fayetteville, N.C., last season. He played in the summer with Team Felton in the Under Armour circuit.

Bates averaged 13.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 blocks this summer for Team Felton.
