In-state tight end KeShawn Toney commits to South Carolina

Williston-Elko tight end Keshawn Toney (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) is not all that well known in the noisy world of big time college football recruiting. USC's Will Muschamp has never been one to listen to that noise when it comes a prospect he likes. Thus, Muschamp offered Toney on Saturday while he was in for an unofficial visit and Toney committed.

"I really love South Carolina and the offer was a dream come true," Toney said. "It feels like home."

Toney has been a standout tight end and defensive end for the Blue Devils and has impressive stats on both sides of the line. But he said Muschamp wants him for the offense.

"They like that I’m a tight end that can fit in their system and give them what they need," he said. "I like how they use their tight ends. It (the offense) fits me. They do a lot with the tight ends and I like to do a lot. They would have me moving all over from blocking the C gap to catching passes."

For is career Toney has 1,571 career receiving yards on 107 catches. He also has scored 11 touchdowns. On defense last season Toney totaled 39 tackles 8 tackles for loss and four sacks.

Toney gives the Gamecocks seven commitments for their 2019 class.
