Gamecocks women earn ESPY nomination

The South Carolina women’s basketball team posted the best season in program history in 2016-17, capped by the team’s first national title.

That success could earn them another honor.

The Gamecocks and Dawn Staley were nominated for the ESPY Award for best team. They’re competing against the likes of the Golden State Warriors, Chicago Cubs and Clemson football team.

USC went 33-4, winning a fourth consecutive SEC title and third consecutive conference tournament. With a fourth No. 1 seed in a row, the Gamecocks survived an early scare against Arizona State in the tournament and rolled to the title, knocking off conference rival Mississippi State in the title game.

The ESPY’s are July 12. Fans can vote here.
