Lucas Hargrove out as Richland Northeast basketball coach

Lucas Hargrove’s stint at his alma mater was a short one.

Hargrove confirmed in an e-mail that he is no longer the boys’ basketball coach at Richland Northeast after one season. The Cavaliers went 1-18 this year and didn’t win a game in region play.

Hargrove, who was hired in May to replace Aaron Lucas, was one of the top players in RNE history and holds single season rebounding record, including a school-best 17 in one game. He played at Auburn and then professionally overseas.

Hargrove was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of North Georgia women’s program before taking the job at RNE.

Richland Northeast hasn’t had a winning season since 2013.
