A Midlands restaurant popular for lunchtime sandwiches is set to launch a breakfast menu.

Crave Artisan Market, which has locations at 2843 Millwood Ave. in Columbia and 725 Meeting St. in West Columbia, is adding breakfast to its repertoire. And the new effort will include a familiar name in the Midlands culinary scene, as Rambo’s Fat Cat Biscuits co-owner and chef Todd Adams is helping lead the Crave breakfast launch, according to Crave owner Louis Williams.

At the outset, Crave will offer breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays at its Millwood location, beginning May 9. And it will have breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays through Fridays at the West Columbia location, beginning May 11.

Crave has been a mainstay on Millwood Avenue for a decade, and brothers Louis and James Williams purchased it in January 2023. They launched the West Columbia location in June 2024. The restaurants have been known for their sandwiches, hot dogs and more, and in 2023 Crave was the winner of The State’s best sandwich shop poll.

Louis Williams said the prospect of breakfast at Crave has long been on his mind.

“I’ve wanted to do breakfast since the beginning, since we bought Crave,” Williams said. “The first couple years I wanted to get my feet under myself and make sure we were doing the things Crave already did and that we were all good.”

Williams said, when it came time to begin planning a breakfast menu, he wanted to partner with a local chef with experience in that realm. He came into contact with Adams, who co-owned the Rambo’s Fat Cat Biscuits restaurant that was on North Main Street for a number of years before its closure last December.

The Crave breakfast menu will feature a host of biscuit sandwiches and other offerings. For instance, there is the chicken biscuit, which comes with buttermilk fried chicken, house pickles and scallion aioli on a scratch-made biscuit. Then there’s the spicy bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, which will have jalapeno bacon and ghost pepper Monterrey jack cheese on a scratch made biscuit. The initial Crave breakfast menu also includes some non-biscuit items, such as cinnamon rolls and avocado toast.

“The biscuits are going to be Rambo’s Fat Cat Biscuits,” Williams said, adding that there will be a “Crave twist” on several of the breakfast options. “Part of the reason Todd is so great is that we saw him as someone who aligned with what we are trying to do. At Crave we take a lot of pride in making everything we possibly can from scratch.”
