A national coffee company that is quickly gaining a foothold in the Midlands has opened a new Columbia location.

Dutch Bros Coffee, which has locations across the nation, has opened the doors at a new spot at 7001 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia, just south of the Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Customers were lined up in the drive-thru for coffee when a reporter rode by on Monday morning, and there was a sign out front that said the business is “now open.”

Recent posts in the Dutch Bros Coffee Lovers Facebook group indicate the 7001 Garners Ferry Road location opened on June 19.

Dutch Bros has been rapidly growing its profile in the Midlands. Earlier this year, the company took over several Clutch Coffee Co. locations in the Midlands and converted them into Dutch Bros. That included shops at 9349 Two Notch Road and 4716 Devine St. in Columbia, 308 Columbia Ave. near downtown Lexington, and at 1511 Lake Murray Blvd. in Irmo.

The company also currently has a location under construction at 10605 Broad River Road in Irmo, near Dutch Fork Road.

Dutch Bros Coffee has more than 1,000 locations across the U.S., many in the western part of the country, per data website ScrapeHero. The company was founded in 1992 in Oregon and is now headquartered in Arizona.

The menu at Dutch Bros includes coffee, energy drinks, teas, smoothies, hot cocoa, chai lattes, blended frozen drinks, and snacks such as muffin tops and granola bars.

The location of the Garners Ferry Road Dutch Bros, just south of the Dorn VA Medical Center and just north of Interstate 77, puts it in a high-traffic area lined with restaurants, stores and other businesses. About 50,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Garners Ferry, per state Department of Transportation data, making it one of the busiest non-interstate roads in the Midlands.
