A popular coffee chain that has grown its presence in the Midlands is developing a new location in a busy area of Irmo.

Dutch Bros Coffee, which has locations across the U.S., is building a new location at 10605 Broad River Road in Irmo. That would be located between a Wendy’s restaurant and a Biscuitville restaurant.

Construction bidding for the new Dutch Bros, and a new Take 5 oil change shop next door, went out late last year. Contractor Raywest Designbuild shared updates on the project in May on Facebook, and construction on both the Dutch Bros and the Take 5 were well underway when a reporter rode by earlier this week.

As of Friday there also were online listings for positions at the coming Broad River Road Irmo Dutch Bros location on the careers page of the company’s website. An opening date for the coffee shop has not been publicly announced.

Dutch Bros has been growing its footprint in the Midlands. Earlier this year, the company took over several Clutch Coffee Co. locations in the Midlands and converted them into Dutch Bros. That included shops at 9349 Two Notch Road and 4716 Devine St. in Columbia, 308 Columbia Ave. near downtown Lexington, and at 1511 Lake Murray Blvd. in Irmo. The company also is developing a shop on Garners Ferry Road in Columbia.

Dutch Bros Coffee has more than 1,000 locations across the U.S., many in the western part of the country. The company was founded in 1992 in Oregon and is now headquartered in Arizona.

The menu at Dutch Bros includes coffee, energy drinks, teas, smoothies, hot cocoa, chai lattes, blended frozen drinks, and snacks such as muffin tops and granola bars.

Broad River Road and connecting Dutch Fork Road in the Ballentine area of Irmo have continued to grow with a host of national businesses, including Chick-fil-A, Walmart, Chipotle, Aldi, Whataburger and many others. About 29,000 cars per day travel down Dutch Fork Road, per state Department of Transportation data, while about 20,000 cars per day traverse that section of Broad River Road.
