The young man who was killed attempting to walk across Interstate 20 has been identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office, after getting some help.

The pedestrian who was hit by a car on I-20 was identified as Jamarcus Dantre Foggie, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Wednesday in a news release.

The 23-year-old Clinton resident died on scene after suffering blunt head trauma, Watts said following Foggie’s autopsy.

The deadly crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Lance Cpl. David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Jones said it occurred in the westbound lanes of I-20 near mile marker 65, and that Foggie was in the middle lane when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Unable to initially identify Foggie, Watts asked for the public’s help, The State reported.

Watts thanked the media for its role in creating a public response that led to a positive identification, according to a news release.

The driver of the Tahoe was not injured in the crash, Jones said.

There is no word if the driver will face any charges, but the Richland County Coroner’s Office and the S.C. Highway Patrol continue to investigate the death.
