SC’s roadways were less deadly over Labor Day weekend 2022. Here are the numbers

There were fewer traffic fatalities on South Carolina’s roadways during the recent Labor Day weekend compared to the same holiday weekend a year ago.

Ten people were killed on the Palmetto State’s roads during Labor Day weekend, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The department considered the holiday weekend to be from 6 p.m. Sept. 2 until 11:59 p.m. Sept. 5.

There were 12 fatalities on South Carolina’s roads during Labor Day weekend in 2021.

The roadways in the Midlands were not exempt from tragedy during the holiday weekend. A motorcyclist died Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on Antioch Amez Church Road in Richland County. And another motorcycle rider died Saturday in a crash on Lachicotte Road in Kershaw County.

According to Department of Public Safety stats, 681 people have died on South Carolina’s roadways in all of 2022, as of Tuesday. That’s 120 fewer than at the same point in 2021.
