A new spot for Midlands residents to satisfy their chicken sandwich cravings is set to open its doors.

Chick-fil-A, the ubiquitous chicken chain that keeps customers coming back for sandwiches, nuggets, waffle fries, sweet tea and more, will open a new restaurant locally this week. Chick-fil-A McCrays Mill will open Thursday, May 11, at 375 Pinewood Road in Sumter, per a news release from the company. That’s just off McCrays Mill Road, near a Walmart Neighborhood Market and across the road from a McDonald’s.

The restaurant is drive-thru and carryout only, according to the release. It will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day except Sunday, when all Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed.

Scott Richardson will be the owner and operator of the Chick-fil-A at 375 Pinewood Road. He has been with the company for a total of 27 years, many of those in the Midlands market.

“I’ve been a part of the Sumter community for nearly 20 years,” Richardson said in a statement. “This is a place that I’m proud to call home, so it’s especially important to me that I can continue to make an impact, not just with job opportunities, but also with consistent care for our guests.”

There are more than 20 Chick-fil-A units in the Midlands area, and the company continues to make moves locally.

Aside from the forthcoming Sumter location on Pinewood Road, Chick-fil-A last week reopened its location at 2299 Augusta Road in West Columbia after it had been closed for months for a remodeling. Also, the Chick-fil-A at 294 Harbison Blvd. in Columbia, which had been torn down in 2022, was rebuilt and reopened in March.

The new Chick-fil-A in Sumter will employ 85 people.
