Columbia’s long-running Wild Wing Cafe in the Vista has closed. Here’s what to know
A longtime fixture in Columbia’s Vista district has closed its doors.
Wild Wing Cafe, which has been located at 729 Lady St. in the Vista for 16 years, announced on social media Wednesday afternoon that it was shuttering.
“Wingers, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors for good,” the restaurant said on Facebook. “Thank you for supporting us for 16 wild years in Columbia, we have made so many great memories with you. We hope to be back in Columbia soon, until then, stay Wild!”
The Google entry for the Lady Street Wild Wing lists it as “permanently closed.”
There once were three Wild Wing Cafe locations in the Midlands, including one in the Vista, one in the Village at Sandhill and one in the Harbison shopping district. All three have now closed.
Wild Wing Cafe has locations in a number of states. The restaurant chain has long been known for its chicken wings and chicken fingers, as well as wraps, sandwiches, burgers and cold beer.
The location in the Vista was for quite some time a hub for sports fans, as various University of South Carolina coaches, including former football coach Steve Spurrier and women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley, among others, formerly participated in call-in radio shows there.
It’s been a tough week for chain wing restaurants in Columbia. The Buffalo Wild Wings location at 10056 Two Notch Road also has recently closed its doors.
