Avoid this area, Lexington County officials say as they battle fire

Lexington County officials told drivers to avoid an area of West Columbia as firefighters responded to a burning building Wednesday morning.

The Lexington County Fire Service was working to extinguish a commercial fire in the 4600 block of Edmund Highway, officials said. That’s near the South Congaree area and the Cornerstone Dimensional Stone business.

At about 1 p.m., Lexington County officials said the fire was under control.

No injuries were reported.

Information about when and where the fire started was not available. There was no word on the cause of the fire, but it is being investigated by the Lexington County Fire Marshal.

Information about the extent of the damage was not available.

Officials closed two lanes of Edmund Highway, and drivers were asked to avoid the area as emergency crews battled the fire.

At about 1:10 p.m., Lexington County officials said all of the lanes had reopened.
