A new spot for folks to get their caffeine fix is headed for Irmo.
Starbucks is prepping a new store in the 1100 block of Dutch Fork Road in Irmo. An opening date for the coffee shop with a drive-thru has not been announced, but signage with Starbucks’ iconic logo has gone up at the property, and prep work on the building was ongoing when a reporter briefly went by Tuesday.
The coming coffee shop will be right beside a new Aldi grocery store that is being prepped on Dutch Fork Road.
It’s a busy commercial corridor, with about 26,500 cars per day traveling down Dutch Fork Road in that area, per state Department of Transportation statistics. Other offerings in the immediate area include a Walmart, a Taco Bell, a Popeyes, a Chick-fil-A, a McDonald’s, the Ballentine Family YMCA and more.
Starbucks continues to be the leader among chain coffee places in the Columbia market. There are more than 30 Starbucks stores in the Columbia and Lexington area, according to a store locator tool on the company’s website.
Late last year, a new Starbucks was opened at 356-A Longs Pond Road in Lexington, near Interstate 20. Also last year, Starbucks opened a shop at 2807 Rosewood Drive, in the Fifth and Sloan mixed-use development. And the company opened a new store in the 650 Lincoln development near Colonial Life Arena.
