There’s a new Mexican restaurant headed to the heart of downtown Columbia.

Que! Bueno Mexican Bar and Grill is planning a location at 1467 Sumter St, according to a Wednesday release from commercial real estate firm DeWees. That location is along a corridor that includes a number of restaurants and businesses, including Greek Boys, Sound Bites Eatery and others.

The Que! Bueno will be going into a space that formerly was home to a Pizza Hut. That Pizza Hut moved to Forest Drive in 2023.

“We absolutely love Que! Bueno and can’t wait for a new spot to grab lunch, and after-work margaritas, near the office,” DeWees broker-in-charge Sam DeWees said in a statement.

Que! Bueno is a burgeoning Mexican restaurant brand in the Midlands area. In 2022, it debuted a location at 7320 Broad River Road in Irmo, in the popular Kennerly Crossing shopping center that includes a Publix.

Then, in 2023, it opened a location at 407 North Lake Drive in Lexington, just off downtown. DeWees represented the restaurant in that lease, as well.

While the Irmo and Lexington spots were traditional, sit-down Mexican restaurants, Que! Bueno opened an ice cream shop and Mexican snack bar in August at 2213 Augusta Road in West Columbia. That location offers Mexican street corn, banana splits, aguas frescas and more.

An opening date for the planned Que! Bueno on Sumter Street has not been announced.
