A Midlands coffee shop recently poured its last cup.

Bart’s Crazy Good Coffee Shop, located at 1311 Dutch Fork Road in the Ballentine area not far from Lake Murray, recently closed its doors. It’s last day was March 16, according to posts on the Bart’s Ballentine Facebook page.

Ownership noted on social media that the closure came “with heavy hearts” and that the shop had been a labor of love.

“We’ve worked tirelessly to craft an experience that’s unique, warm, and, as so many of you have told us, ‘incredibly good,’” the shop posted.

Bart’s shared that the closure did not come because of a lack of business. The company had recently been seeking investors to keep storefront operations going.

“As we’ve shared before, we’ve been searching for investors to help us with working capital to carry us to the profitability point, as well as to take the next step in our journey,” the shop posted. “But in these uncertain economic times, especially in the restaurant sector, investors are hesitant. Despite our growth and the strength of what we’ve built, we haven’t been able to secure the funding we need to keep going.”

There have been three Bart’s shops in the Midlands across the last half-decade.

According to Facebook, the Ballentine location opened last June. Bart’s first storefront shop opened in Chapin in 2020. That location closed in February 2024. In August 2023, Bart’s took over operations at Tribal Coffee at 7949 Broad River Road in Irmo. That location closed its doors in October 2024.

But a part of the Bart’s brand will continue on. The company shared on Facebook that it plans to continue roasting coffee and will make it available on the company’s website, bartscoffee.com. It advised customers to keep an eye on the Bart’s Crazy Good Coffee Roasting Company Facebook page for updates about online ordering.

The company thanked its loyal customers as it bid farewell to the Ballentine store.

“This isn’t the ending we dreamed of, but it’s because of you that we made it this far,” Bart’s of Ballentine posted on Facebook. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our family. We’ll cherish the memories we’ve made together forever.”
