Those in the Red Bank area of Lexington are about to have a new spot to fill their burrito cravings.

Chipotle Mexican Grill, a well-known chain with locations nationwide, will open a new restaurant on Wednesday, April 16 at 5456 Platt Springs Road, according to an email from the company. The new location will be near the intersection of S. Lake Drive and Platt Springs Road, and is part of the under-construction Platt Springs Crossing development that will be anchored by a Lowes Foods grocery store and feature a host of other businesses.

A new Whataburger was the first business to open its doors at Platt Springs Crossing when it debuted on April 10. A Panda Express restaurant also was well into the construction stages when a reporter rode by on Monday morning.

There are about 3,700 Chipotle locations in the U.S., including more than a half-dozen in the Midlands. Chipotle has long been known for its burritos, tacos, salads, bowls and more. They also have quesadillas, kids meals and a variety of sodas. The company said in a release that the new Lexington County location will offer honey chicken for a limited time. The store will be open from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Officials said the new Platt Springs Road Chipotle is currently hiring. There will be about 30 employees at the restaurant.

The Chipotle is opening its doors in a growing, high-traffic area. About 19,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Platt Springs Road, according to state Department of Transportation data. Meanwhile, about 27,000 cars per day travel down S. Lake Drive nearby.
