A popular convenience store chain is prepping a new location in Lexington County.

Circle K, which has locations across the the U.S. and many stores in the Midlands, is planning a new location in the 5904 Platt Springs Road, at the corner of Platt Springs and Kyzer roads. That’s about a mile southwest of White Knoll High School.

Lexington County property tax records indicate that Circle K bought the property at 5904 Platt Springs Road in December. Earlier this month Circle K Stores Inc. filed an application to sell beer and wine at the location, according to public notices from the state Department of Revenue.

An opening date for the Circle K has not been announced. Land clearing and construction work was ongoing when a reporter rode by on Monday morning.

There are nearly 7,000 Circle K convenience stores across the U.S., according to data site ScrapeHero. The convenience store company started in 1951 in Texas and has grown through the years, and now has locations across the world, including in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Circle K locations offer many convenience store hallmarks, including coffee, soda, snacks, car care and more.

The general area of Platt Springs Road and nearby S. Lake Drive has continued to grow in recent years. For instance, about a mile and a half east of where the Circle K is planned there is a large mixed-use development under construction that will be anchored by a Lowes grocery store and has a number of other businesses, including Whataburger and Chipotle, opened or coming soon.
