Voodoo Brewing’s Lexington location hopes to open soon. Take a look inside
One of the busiest, trendiest corridors of Lexington is getting closer to adding a new beer-centric restaurant.
Voodoo Brewing Company, which has locations across a number of states, is in the home stretch of preparations for its new restaurant at 102 W. Main St. in Lexington. Voodoo Lexington owner Dawu Bowman has circled an opening date of Oct. 18 for the spot that sits on the northwest corner of Main and Church streets.
The Lexington Voodoo was initially announced back in Feb. 2024. It’s located on a corner that was once home to a carpet store, but has seen a revival with food and drink in recent years. The property also includes a TakoSushi restaurant and a Molto Vino wine bar.
It’s part of a Main Street Lexington corridor that is bursting with restaurants, bars, shops, the popular Icehouse Amphitheater and plenty of traffic. About 20,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Main Street, per state Department of Transportation data.
Bowman, a military veteran who served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, told The State it was a fairly lengthy process to select a Midlands location for Voodoo. Forest Acres was considered, as was Columbia’s Vista district.
“Ultimately this property right here at 102 W. Main St. just kind of rose to the cream of the crop,” Bowman said. “It’s a beautiful location in a thriving environment and neighborhood. We’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are developing small businesses, and connected to the community. I saw that as a great opportunity. Main Street is so interactive.”
Founded in Pennsylvania, there are Voodoo locations in a number of states, including Colorado, Idaho, Georgia, Florida, Ohio and elsewhere. Other South Carolina locations include spots in Fountain Inn and Myrtle Beach. A location in nearby Newberry was announced earlier this year.
Voodoo is known for its craft beer, and there will be two dozen offerings on tap at the Lexington location, Bowman said. That includes the Voodoo Lovechild, a fruited Belgian offering with notes of cherries, raspberries and passion fruit.
The coming Lexington restaurant also will have a full food menu with pizza, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, noodle bowls and more. Bowman said his favorite item on the food menu is the Chicky Chicky Bang Bang sandwich, which comes with a tikka-marinated fried chicken breast served on a grain bun with tikka slaw, pickles and “bang bang” sauce.
“You can expect delicious food, made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients,” Bowman said. “We don’t have any freezers. We make things from scratch, including our sauces, our pico, you name it.”
Bowman said he has heard a buzz of anticipation in the community for the arrival of Voodoo. He said he’s working to meet that with a vibrant restaurant experience.
“It’s why I was attracted to Voodoo in the first place,” Bowman said. “It’s because of the excitement of the culture and the climate of Voodoo. It’s a come-as-you-are, choose-your-own-adventure type of establishment where you can come in and there are multiple points to order your food and interact with the restaurant.”
The Lexington Voodoo has a spacious dining room with a number of community and smaller tables, with large TVs hanging in numerous places, including along the western wall of exposed brick. There also is a garage door that can be opened, leading to an outdoor patio and giving the dining room an airy feel.
“You can look forward to a great environment that’s family-friendly and fun,” Bowman said.
