Well-known discount store that caught fire will return to Columbia neighborhood
It’s like a phoenix rising from the ashes, but with more Hawaiian Punch and dish soap.
The Dollar Tree discount store located at 2001 Rosewood Drive, which was seriously damaged by fire earlier this year, is planning to return. A large banner proclaiming that Dollar Tree is “coming soon” was hanging on the front of the store when a reporter went by Tuesday.
A reopening date for the location has not been publicly announced, but shelving is in place inside the store. Workers were at the Rosewood Drive site Tuesday, working on Dollar Tree’s roadside sign. City of Columbia records show a building permit was issued in November for new signage.
The Dollar Tree building at 2001 Rosewood was damaged by fire April 19 and has been closed since.
“The fire broke out in an aisle of the store and extended into the attic,” the Columbia Fire Department posted on social media platform X back in April. “Crews entered the building and quickly brought the incident under control. All staff and customers who were inside the store at the time got out safely.”
There are more than 9,000 Dollar Tree stores across the U.S., per data site ScrapeHero. There are about 20 locations for the brand in the Columbia area, per a store locator tool on the company’s website. The company has continued to expand in the Midlands, adding a shop at 6090 Garners Ferry Road this year.
