It appears a new Walmart could be coming to a busy, growing corridor in Lexington.

According to the Lexington County Planning Commission’s July agenda packet, which is a public document, a Walmart is planned at 2474 Augusta Highway. That’s across the road from Lexington High School, and next door to a shopping center that is anchored by a Lowes Foods.

An entry for a “Lexington West Walmart — Augusta Hwy” at 2474 Augusta Highway is listed in the commercial projects and subdivisions section of the planning commission’s July 2026 agenda packet. The Lexington County tax map ID number on the entry matches the address at 2474 Augusta Highway.

The planning commission paperwork also notes that stormwater management and sediment control fees were submitted in June for a project titled “Lexington West Walmart — Augusta Hwy.”

The State reached out to Walmart about the possibility of a new store along Augusta Highway.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to expand and better serve communities,” a Walmart spokesperson said in a Monday evening email. “We have no additional information to share at this time.”

Augusta Highway near Lexington High School has recently gotten hot in terms of retail development. The area already includes a number of national retailers and restaurants including the aforementioned Lowes Foods, CVS pharmacy, McDonald’s, Little Caesars, Starbucks, 7-Eleven, Arby’s and more.

And other big projects are on the way. The Victory Village shopping center is under construction in the 2500 block of Augusta Highway. That will be anchored by a Target store and also include an Academy Sports + Outdoors store, and restaurants such as Dave’s Hot Chicken and Chipotle, with more announcements likely on the way.

Meanwhile, a new Taco Bell restaurant recently opened its doors at 2464 Augusta Highway, and a Parker’s Kitchen convenience store is on the way at 2509 Augusta Highway.
