Person shot overnight in busy area of Richland County, sheriff says
An investigation is underway after a person was shot Tuesday night, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
The shooting happened in the 2000 block of Alpine Road, the sheriff’s department said Wednesday in a news release. That’s a part of Columbia which is densely packed with retail businesses and restaurants.
At about 8 p.m., officers responded there after receiving report of a possible shooting, according to the release.
Officers found a victim who had been shot, the sheriff’s department said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with what the sheriff’s department called “non-life-threatening injuries.”
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported, but the sheriff’s department said it’s continuing to investigate.
