Argument ends with victim getting shot three times, South Carolina sheriff says
A South Carolina man was arrested on multiple charges following a recent shooting, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.
After Monday’s gunfire, 48-year-old Winnsboro resident Eddie Lamont Smalls was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday in a news release.
At about 2:30 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to a shooting on Fagan Road, near the intersection with Doty Road, according to the release. That’s in the South Winnsboro area, between U.S. 321 and Interstate 77.
Deputies found a shooting victim and provided aid until EMS took the victim to Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia, the sheriff’s office said. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
Deputies said Smalls and the victim were arguing. When the victim started to walk away Smalls shot the victim in the back three times, the sheriff’s office said.
Information about why they were arguing, and if they had a relationship prior to the gunfire, was not available.
Deputies found the gun that was used in the shooting and Smalls was taken into custody at the scene before getting booked into the Fairfield County Detention Center, according to the release. Information about Smalls’ bond was not available.
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the shooting and asked anyone with information about the gunfire to call 803-635-4141.
