Car stopped for illegal window tint, but what was in it lands men in jail, SC cops say

A vehicle was pulled over Monday for a traffic violation, but two men were arrested for what deputies found inside the vehicle, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Sumter residents Jason Leonard Dubose, 44, and Jason David McLamb, 45, each were charged with distribution of methamphetamine, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday in a news release.

A little after 11 a.m. Monday, a deputy performed a routine traffic stop after seeing that a vehicle driving on Nazarene Church Road had illegal window tint, according to the release.

During the traffic stop a K-9 unit was deployed for a free-air sniff around the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. The police dog alerted deputies about the presence of illegal drugs, prompting a search of the vehicle, according to the release.

Deputies found what is suspected to be meth and arrested both the driver and passenger, the sheriff’s office said.

While it’s not clear if Dubose or McLamb was the driver, both were taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, according to the release. Bond was set at $50,000 each for Dubose and McLamb, and both remain behind bars, Sumter County court records show.

Both men are scheduled to return to court on May 9, according to judicial records.
