Man with baby was robbed at gunpoint at shopping mall in Columbia, SC cops say

Four men were arrested following an armed robbery at a South Carolina shopping mall where a man and his 3-week-old child were held at gunpoint, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The crime happened May 12 at Columbia Mall, the sheriff’s department said Monday in a news release.

Deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery at the shopping center at 7201 Two Notch Road and learned the victim had his infant child with him when he was robbed by four men, according to the release.

No injuries were reported.

The robbers stole the victim’s personal items as well as his recent purchases before they left in a vehicle, the sheriff’s department said. Deputies searched the area for the vehicle but didn’t find it, according to the release.

During their investigation deputies were able to identify the vehicle and the men believed to be involved in the armed robbery, the sheriff’s department said. On May 23, the sheriff’s department’s Fugitive Task Force located three of the men — 22-year-olds Joey Davis, Thomas Lawrence and J’Lon Martin Davis — all at the same residence where the trio was taken into custody, according to the release.

In a search of the residence, deputies found several guns, the sheriff’s department said.

The fourth wanted man was taken into custody May 27, according to the release. Robert Tramell Williams, 19, was at his home when he was arrested and a search of that residence also yielded several firearms, the sheriff’s department said.

All four were charged with armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the release.

Bond was set at $150,000 for each man, Richland County court records show. While Davis, Martin and Williams have posted bond, Lawrence remains locked up at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to officials.
