Shooting led to manhunt and now charges, Lexington County sheriff says
A manhunt in South Carolina for a person of interest in a recent shooting ended over the weekend, and now the suspected gunman has been charged with multiple crimes, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Jacob Mitchell Hill, 32, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon by someone convicted of certain crimes and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said Monday in a news release.
The shooting happened Nov. 7 in the Pelion area, according to the release.
“Based on the information detectives have gathered during their investigation, Hill shot a man at a home on Hartley Quarter Road Friday morning,” Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release. “The shooting followed a heated argument between the two men and happened in front of multiple witnesses.”
Information about why Hill and the victim were arguing was not available.
The victim was shot in the midsection and remains in critical condition, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
“Deputies searched for Hill throughout Friday and early Saturday,” Koon said. “They found him hiding in a shed on Adams Road.”
His status was elevated from person of interest to suspect when Hill was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center, according to the release. Hill was denied bond and remains locked up, jail records show.
Hill has previously been convicted of burglary, assault & battery and petit larceny, Lexington County court records show.
