Teen arrested after man was shot at apartment complex in Columbia, SC police say

A man was shot in South Carolina on Wednesday and a teenager was arrested Thursday, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Darius White, 18, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, police said on social media.

At about 3 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the shooting at Spring Lake Apartments, police said . That’s off Garners Ferry Road, near the junction with I-77.

Officers found a man outside, and he was taken to an area hospital with a life-threatening injury, according to police. Further information on the man’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said they believe there was an altercation between White and the victim just before the shooting. Information about why the altercation occurred, and any prior relationship between the men, was not available.

White was initially detained on Tama Road and questioned by investigators, then arrested, according to police.

He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he remains locked up after White was denied bond, police said.
