Man charged with murder after woman was shot in Columbia, SC police say
The day after a woman was shot and killed in South Carolina, two people were arrested in connection to her death, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Daequon Cole and his reported girlfriend, Chelsy Kyzer, were taken into custody overnight Saturday, police said on social media Sunday evening.
At about 8:30 p.m. Friday, an injured woman was found in the 2000 block of Assembly Street, according to police. That’s in downtown Columbia, near the intersection with Elmwood Avenue, where there’s a McDonald’s restaurant on the corner.
An officer provided the 27-year-old shooting victim with aid before she was taken to an area hospital, where she later died, police said.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office, which is assisting police in the investigation, has not publicly identified the victim.
Police said the victim was arguing and fighting with Cole moments before the shooting. Information about why they were arguing, and if they knew each other prior to the shooting, was not available.
The 32-year-old Cole was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, jail records show. He was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he remains as no bond has been set.
Kyzer, 23, was charged with accessory after the fact of murder, according to jail records. Kyzer’s accused of helping Cole evade law enforcement officers, police said.
Although her bond was set at $10,000, Kyzer also remains locked up at the detention center, according to jail records.
