Man charged with murder after body was found near Lake Murray, SC sheriff says
Days after a body was found near Lake Murray, a South Carolina man was charged with murder, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
In addition to murder, 42-year-old Camden resident Brian Vincemichael Ashford was charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said Thursday in a news release.
The charges are connected to the death of 43-year-old Raynard Brewington, according to the release. Before daylight early Monday morning, Brewington’s body was discovered in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Lake Murray Boulevard, the sheriff’s department said. That’s in a part of Columbia that’s about a mile from Lake Murray.
“Based on their investigation, which included a review of items collected from the scene and mobile phone records, detectives determined Ashford traveled to Lexington County early Monday morning and shot Raynard Brewington to death not far from his apartment door,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release. “The two men had recent confrontations after Ashford discovered they both had a relationship with the same woman.”
Deputies responded to the apartment complex after receiving 911 calls from people who reported they heard what they said might be gunshots, the sheriff’s department said.
No other injuries were reported.
Ashford was arrested Wednesday night and booked into the Lexington County Detention Center early Thursday morning, according to the release. He remains locked up after being denied bond on both charges, jail records show.
