Body was found inside a vehicle but man wasn’t a crash victim, SC officials say

A South Carolina man’s body was found inside a vehicle Monday, but he wasn’t killed in a crash, according to Aiken County officials.

Michael Harvey, a 36-year-old Beech Island resident, was involved in a fight and stabbed, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said.

At about 12:30 p.m., Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a fight at Harvey’s home in the 5000 block of Woodcrest Way, where he was stabbed in the lower body, according to Ables.

Deputies found Harvey inside a vehicle and started lifesaving measures, the sheriff’s office said. EMS arrived and Harvey was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed this week in Newberry, Ables said.

Information about the person who stabbed Harvey, and if any other people were involved in the incident, was not available. There was no word on a motive for the fight.

No arrests have been reported, but Harvey’s death continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-642-1761, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.

In the case of an emergency, always call 911.
