One person shot as gunfire sprays houses in Richland County, SC sheriff says

One person and multiple homes were shot in a South Carolina neighborhood Monday night, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The shooting happened in the 1900 block of Nearview Avenue, the sheriff’s department said Tuesday in a news release. That’s in Columbia, near Exit 15 on I-77.

At about 6:15 p.m. Monday, deputies were responding to reports of a shooting in the 1800 block of Faraway Drive, according to the release. That’s two blocks from the site of the Nearview Avenue shooting. The deputies were flagged down on Nearview Avenue for a home that was hit by gunfire, the sheriff’s department said.

Deputies learned that multiple homes were struck by gunfire, and that a shooting victim was taken to a local hospital, according to the release. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported. There was no word about the extent of the property damage caused in the shooting.

Information about the shooter, or shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available. There was no word on a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported, but the shooting is being investigated by the sheriff’s department.
