SC man charged with murder after shooting acquaintance several times, cops say
Two days after a South Carolina man was shot and killed another man was charged with murder, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to murder, 32-year-old Manning resident Yul Iziah David also was charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s office said Monday in a news release.
The charges are connected to the Saturday shooting death of 36-year-old Sumter resident Bryan Dargan, according to the release.
At about 4 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 1000 block of Collins Street, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies found a shooting victim and attempted to provide aid, but Dargan was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
David, who was identified as the suspected shooter, left the home following the gunfire, according to the release. With assistance from the Sumter Police Department, deputies identified the David’s vehicle and located him at a home on Spaulding Avenue, the sheriff’s office said. That’s about 2 miles from where Dargan was killed.
Deputies also located a gun believed to have been used in the shooting, according to the release.
David was originally taken into custody as a person of interest and detained for questioning, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators learned that David and Dargan were acquaintances who had a disagreement, according to the release. Information about why the men were disagreeing was not available.
The sheriff’s office said it believes that David pulled out a weapon and shot Dargan several times.
The shooting was called an isolated incident by the sheriff’s office, which said “the community is not in danger.”
David was booked into the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he remains in custody after his bond was denied, according to the release.
An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, according to the Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.
It was a “senseless murder that should have never happened,” Sheriff Anthony Dennis said in the release. “We are grateful for the community support that enabled our deputies to respond quickly and locate the suspect.”
