18-year old man charged in 2025 SC State shooting, SLED says

A Charleston County man was arrested and charged in relation to an October 2025 shooting at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, a +South Carolina Law Enforcement Division news release said Thursday.

Darrell Lee Goss Jr., 18, was charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, carrying or displaying a firearm on school Property, and Breach of Peace Aggravated in Nature o Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the release said.

Warrants provided by SLED accuse Goss of firing into a crowd outside a dorm, Hugine Suites, during homecoming celebrations on Oct. 4.

A separate shooting on the same day killed a 19-year-old Saluda woman, Jaliyah Butler, and injured two others. No one has been arrested in her murder, but several other people have been arrested on gun charges from that day.

Three Midlands teens were separately arrested and charged with gun violations in October along with a fourth arrest of Lucas Shemar Bradley, a Richland County 19-year-old, in December.

In February, two more teens were shot and killed outside the same dorm, with a third injured. 18-year-old Khamanti Lytrel Kennedy was charged with murder in relation to the case, a SLED news release said.

According to the Thursday release, Goss was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Ho
