South Carolina TV anchor hit man with beer bottle in fight over politics, police say

A Columbia TV news anchor was arrested in South Dakota on Sunday after she was accused of smashing a beer bottle into a man’s head over a political argument, according to Sioux Falls police.

Kamie Roesler, 28, co-anchors WIS Sunrise, according to the station. She joined WIS-TV in September 2019.

Roesler has been charged with aggravated assault.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, told police he and Roesler had been arguing about politics leading up to the incident.

Roesler and the man knew each other, according to police.

The victim had cuts on his face and needed stitches, police said. He refused treatment from paramedics at the scene but later went for treatment on his own, officials said.

Roesler had previously worked at KSFY-TV in South Dakota, a sister station of WIS.

WIS is aware of the incident and reported that Roesler was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault.

Brad Hyatt, WIS’ news director, told McClatchy News the station has no other comment at this time.
