SC man killed in head-on crash with tractor trailer, cops say

A series of crashes Monday resulted in the death of a South Carolina man, officials said.

Reggie Lamar Miller, a 73-year-old resident of Ninety Six, was killed in an accident, according to Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox.

The three-vehicle collision happened at about 8:45 a.m. in Greenwood County, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the Highway Patrol.

Miller was driving a 2007 Jeep Wrangler west on S.C. 702 when it was hit by a 2022 Nissan Kicks that was entering the road from the intersection with Fraizer Road, according to Bolt.

The collision caused Miller’s SUV to cross left of the center line into oncoming traffic where it hit an eastbound 2018 Kenworth tractor trailer head on, Bolt said.

Miller suffered blunt force trauma and died at the scene, according to Cox.

Bolt said neither the truck driver nor the driver of the Nissan were hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if Miller or the other drivers were wearing seat belts.

Information about possible criminal charges was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through Sunday, 1,015 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2022, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,194 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 12 people have died in Greenwood County crashes in 2022, DPS reported. Last year, 11 deaths were reported in the county, according to DPS data.
