Section of busy road in Columbia closed after gas line is cut, fire department says

A section of a busy road in Richland County is closed for repairs Wednesday, the Columbia Fire Department said.

At about noon, the fire department said the stretch of Broad River Road between Zimalcrest Drive and Seminole Road was blocked.

A gas line in the area was cut by crews, fire department spokesperson Mike DeSumma told The State.

There were no injuries, and there is no call for the area to be evacuated, DeSumma said.

Repairs to the gas line are expected to take “considerable time,” the fire department said.

Drivers are asked to find alternative routes.
