Driver killed in crash that hurt another person is identified by Lexington coroner
One person was killed and another was injured Saturday in an early morning car crash in Lexington County, South Carolina officials said.
Terrance D. Brunson, a 33-year-old Batesburg resident, died in the accident, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said.
Brunson was driving a 2006 Jeep Commander south on Augusta Highway near Breezy Hill Road, just north of Batesburg-Leesville, said Cpl. Tyler Tidwell of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Around 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, the SUV drove off the road and hit a utility pole before flipping over, according to Tidwell.
The car had two occupants, Tidwell said.
The coroner said Brunson, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene while a passenger was taken to an area hospital with what Fisher called non-life threatening injuries. Further information on the passenger’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.
Information about what caused the vehicle to veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Feb. 19, at least 110 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,075 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least three people have died in Lexington County crashes in 2023, DPS data shows. Last year, 43 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
