Pickup was passing vehicles when it crashed into dump truck, SC cops say
One person was killed Friday when two trucks crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The collision happened at about 6:50 a.m. in Jasper County, said Cpl. Nick Pye.
A 2016 Chevrolet pickup truck was driving south on U.S. 321, according to Pye. Near the intersection with Charleston Highway the Chevy was passing other vehicles when it collided with a 1998 dump truck that was driving north on U.S. 321, Pye said.
The Chevy then ran off the right side of the road and flipped over, Pye said.
The Chevy driver died, according to Pye.
The Jasper County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the Chevy driver.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through March 1, at least 106 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
At least three people have died in Jasper County crashes this year, and 13 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
